VBPL should use MySpace to connect with teens

I understand the concern around these OSN but I think it has more to do with the way they are used than the fact that they are used. If the library wants to stay in tune with the younger generation they need to be where the teens are.

Staff Picks on RA wiki

I enjoyed reading some of the staff picks and even jotted down a few titles to check out. I added mine, which was Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West. I had a hard time putting into words how magical this book is. I loved it from front to back, over and over. I hope someone will see my "pick" and read this book too.

Not a big fan of the Wiki

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really care for the Wiki. I don't really see how I could use it but if someone finds it useful in their job that's great.

IM in the library

I am not working on this during Ask VBPL hours, so I didn't interact with anyone that way but I think it's a great way to get information. When I use IM to work with a vendor, I love it because I don't have to wait on hold on the phone! I think it's a great extra resource for us.

I liked the feeds...

I looked at all of them and I like Topix.net the best because of the way it breaks down the information. I like that it has a place for local information and for most popular information and the information is easy to find.

IM & Libraries

According to what I read, at least half of our customers may be IM customers. Even though it may not be the most popular way to obtain information for all customers, it is a great service for us to offer to those that prefer it. Also, if it's a growing trend, the number of customers that use it may increase. I am in Admin, but I IM with a vendor when I have to place an order. I prefer it because I don't have to wait on hold and I get an immediate answer.

I used Bloglines

Once I figured out what I was doing, it was pretty easy. I look forward to seeing the information that will feed into my blog from the topics that I find most interesting.
